
As part of this year’s “Ocean Week,” curious children turned into real scientists and oceanographers. Through a series of fun and interactive experiments, the little discoverers found answers to some of the most fascinating secrets of the deep blue sea.
Two of the experiments caused a real sensation among the attendees:
Experiment 1: “Why Don’t Fish Sink?” The children learned how the so-called “swim bladder” works in fish. Using ordinary balloons and water, the kids adjusted the amount of air in their improvised “fish” themselves. They saw with their own eyes how adding air made the model float to the surface, while releasing it caused it to sink. The experiment explained the laws of physics in a super-accessible way and showed how nature gave marine life the perfect internal tool for balanceю
Experiment 2: “What is an Ocean Current?” In the second experiment, the children explored the invisible forces that move water across the global ocean. Using containers of hot and cold water, along with various food colorings, they recreated a miniature model of ocean masses. The young researchers watched as the denser cold water sank to the bottom, while the warmer, lighter water moved upward. This visual lesson demonstrated how differences in temperature and salinity give rise to the mighty ocean currents that circle our planet.
