English Language Week at “Nikator” – games, competitions and lots of laughter

Last week, the traditional English Language Week took place at Nikator Private Secondary School .

As every year, the open lessons were the most exciting part. This time, all three classes focused on a short but intensive review of everything they’ve learned so far – no boring repetitions, just lots of movement, laughter and friendly competition.

In first grade, the lesson turned into a whole series of games. The children reviewed the letters they’ve covered – saying the letter, its sound and a word containing it. Then they played “Simon Says” to go over body parts and various actions. There was also a very sweet game about family members – grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, mom, dad – everyone took turns showing and naming them. Animals and their babies weren’t forgotten, nor were the colors. The class literally didn’t stop moving and speaking the entire hour.

Third grade went with a real Quiz Show format. The winner was the one with the most points. The questions covered new vocabulary, grammar (especially Past Simple), comparative and superlative forms (-er and -est), and telling time on the clock. The kids were very focused, while the audience commented and applauded loudly for every correct answer.

Fourth grade chose a classic team competition – two teams, point by point. They tested words from recent lessons, correct use of before, after and when, writing a short connected text using only given key words, and the difference between must / mustn’t and have to / don’t have to. The winning team celebrated noisily, while the second promised a rematch next time. The whole week passed in great spirits – the teachers enjoyed it as much as the children.

That’s what English looks like at “Nikator” – not just a subject, but something alive, fun and a little bit competitive. See you at the next English Language Week!
